Liz Flock is a multimedia journalist based in Washington, D.C. She is currently a staff writer for the U.S. News and World Report, where she covers politics and social issues. As lead writer for the Washington Whispers blog, she investigates the political goings-on in Washington.

Previously, Liz was a foreign and breaking news blogger for the Washington Post, where she spent much of her time covering protests — from the Arab Spring toOccupy Wall Street. Last fall, she embedded with a group of Occupiers marching from New York to D.C. She also occasionally unmasked middle-aged men pretending to be lesbians, as she did with the Gay Girl in Damascus, and wrote for the local desk, during which time she authored a series on D.C. neighborhoods.

Before joining the Post, Liz was a features writer for Forbes India magazine, where she was one of the first American journalists to cover the Mumbai terror attacks. Her other reports included an investigation into the Gates Foundation’s AIDS program and the collapse of what was then the world’s largest art fund. Her coverage for the Gates Foundation was nominated for the Lorenzo Natali Journalism Prize and the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award.

Liz’s work has also appeared in the Boston Globe, CNN, Chicago Tribune and University of Chicago magazine.

She has a B.A. from Boston College, where she published an honors thesis and received the university’s Cardinal Cushing Award for best creative fiction in a publication. She graduated magna cum laude.

When Liz is not writing, you can find her composing songs on her guitar, listening to bhangra music or reading from her poorly stacked pile of books. She is trying to break her habit of playing Words with Friends.
